In August 2020 our own C+MRC Director, Dr. Vanessa E. Greenwood, released her 3rd book, Navigating Media Literacy: A Pedagogical Tour of Disneyland (Myers Education Press). Our intern interviewed her about what makes this book different from all the other books about Disney and why everyone outside (as well as inside) the Academy should read it. Here are excerpts from the interview.
The impact of virtual schooling en masse will not be felt until we leave it. Like virtual reality we will not be able to truly understand learning during the pandemic until we exit our educational lockdown and return to the brick-and-mortar classroom. But it remains to be seen if and when we will ever fully return. In this media literacy thought-piece, Dr. Vanessa E. Greenwood contemplates the Oculus Rift as an allegory for reimagining post-pandemic schooling in the United States.
The C+MRC will be joining NAMLE to commemorate the 5th Annual National Media Literacy Week during October 21-25, 2019. We have a number of events, podcasts and resources to share. Check back regularly for updates.
Faith Rogow and Sherri Hope Culver join the C+MRC podcast for a thoughtful discussion about what adults do and do not yet know about the tweenage digital experience. Emergent issues (from S2 E1) include the economy of YouTube, authenticity and trust, and the differences (if any) between engagement online versus offline.
Join this discussion to avoid the perils and pitfalls of truthiness in health information and what we as health information-seekers can do to be more health media literate. We'll also identify the responsibilities of health news reporters and editors in conveying health-related research findings to the general public.
