We the Voters Political “Party”

On November 3, 2016 Dr. Vanessa Domine (Greenwood) coordinated and moderated a “We the Voters” “political party” for undergraduate students in the C+MRC performance room in School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University. Dr. Marylou Naumoff, Dr. Joel Penney, and Marc Rosenweig comprised the discussant panel.

The event consisted of two short film screenings: How to Master Debate and Mediocracy). Students engaged in a lively discussion about the rhetorical strategies used in the Trump-Clinton presidential debates and the power of social media to circulate party ideology.

The discussion also highlighted the media literacy efforts of the Wall Street Journal through “Red Feed, Blue Feed” to demonstrate partisan bias among Facebook users; and the real-time fact-checking efforts of National Public Radio.

The event received national coverage as part of the 2nd Annual National Media Literacy Week (www.medialitweek.us).
